The Tiger Woods PGA Golf 09 reviews are starting to come in and some of them, quite honestly, are not overly glowing. EA Sports, the proud parents of Tiger Woods 09 have released the dowloadable demo of the game. It is available now on the PlayStation Network and XBOX Live Marketplace.

The majority of less than stellar reviews we have seen seem to be coming from a few people who seem to believe that the Earth should move every time a new version of a popular game is released. We think our expectations are based a little bit more in reality and the reality is, no matter how realistic the video game may become, it is still only a video game. It is not a real round of golf and it is not some kind of golf game version of a multi-million dollar flight simulator.

No, the graphics are not stunningly improved from last year but they are noticeably better. Yes, the ability to endlessly tweak your clubs to the point of silliness gives players an unrealistic ability to score well but, honestly, this is exactly what the tour pros do and isn’t the entire point of playing a game like Tiger Woods PGA Golf 09 to step into the fantasy world of the tour pro and partake in all of the silly eccentricities it contains, like endlessly tweaking your clubs?

If we were to pick any aspect of the newest incarnation of the Tiger Woods Golf series we aren’t totally enthused about, it would have to be the addition of All Play to the mix. All Play basically gives tips and nudges to lesser experienced players to help them compete with seasoned veterans of the game. We realize fully that our concern is based primarily in the fact that, while we were once novices, we spent hours playing the game and improving our skills to reach the semi-competent level we hold now.

Hopefully we are wrong and this new system will only open the game up to more players who were intimidated to try in the past. Surely the use of All Play will be relegated among serious players to the practice games.
